Our longtime volunteer, Shirl, is back after a bad accident. Our staff and shoppers are glad to see her smiling face back in our Colonial Store. Say hello if you see her there.
Shirl is one of the ReStore's best volunteers! She started volunteering in 2008, after taking care of her mom for an extended period of time. "I didn't even know what a ReStore was until one day somebody told me it would be right up my alley." Shirl worked for 30 years in warehousing and inventory, so she was a natural fit. The ReStore receives donations of new and gently used home items and resells them to the public. The proceeds benefit Habitat's mission of building and rehabbing homes for low income families and individuals. She loved working in the ReStore doing stocking, pricing and inventory, but in March 2012, Shirl was injured in a head-on collision. After eight months of therapy and rehab, Shirl couldn't wait to get back to helping out at the ReStore! She's back, coming in about three day's a week for four or five hours at a time. Tom May, ReStore Director of Operations, says "We really appreciate Shirl. She helps out just because she loves what she's doing. That's the best kind of volunteer."
Welcome back, Shirl! We're glad you're one of our volunteers!
